Patients will meet with their doctor for a consultation prior to the day of the procedure. During this, they will discuss the surgical approach that will be used and the patient’s goals with surgery. Patients will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon will use cannulas to target the fat deposits and remove them. This process is performed on the abdominal region as well as the posterior trunk, which includes the area from the upper back to the lumbar spine. The surgeon will then transfer this fat to the buttocks. Once the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be monitored as they wake up from the anesthesia.
Patients may experience some swelling and bruising in the regions of the procedure after surgery. This is typically manageable through a course of anti-inflammatory pain medications and cold packs. Compression garments are worn to minimize swelling and promote healing. It is important to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for several weeks after a brazilian butt lift to allow the fat grafts to settle properly.
