The patient will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon will begin by making an incision near the lateral hip region to access the damaged tendon. Next, the surgeon will use specialized instruments to remove any loose material before beginning to repair the damaged tendon. Next, the surgeon will place anchors on the femur and a suture will be attached to the damaged tendon. The surgeon will then pull the tendon down to its proper position before connecting it to the bone. When the surgery is complete, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be removed from the anesthesia.
Following the procedure, it is normal for patients to experience pain at the site of the incision. This is manageable through pain medications prescribed by the surgeon. Patients are expected to avoid putting weight on the hip for 4-6 weeks. After the initial recovery phase has passed, patients will begin a physical therapy program to help them regain function, improve stability, and build muscle.
