Patients will be under general anesthesia throughout the procedure. Depending on the severity of the injury and the patient’s goals, the exact nature of the procedure will differ. The overall goal of this procedure is to stabilize the joint and repair any other minor injuries that may have developed. It is important to consult your doctor so you know what to expect on the day of the surgery.

Patients can return home on the same day of the procedure. The doctor will prescribe pain medications to ensure the patient’s comfort. Patients will wear a sling for 4-6 weeks to ensure the shoulder stays immobile, allowing for healing. Once the area has healed, patients will attend physical therapy to slowly introduce movement and strength back to the shoulder region.
