About Adenoidectomy, Ear Tubes, and Nasal Turbinate Reduction
This surgery is typically recommended for individuals suffering from recurrent sinus infections or respiratory problems caused by enlarged adenoids.
Ear tube insertion is a surgical procedure performed to treat chronic middle ear infections and reduce fluid buildup behind the eardrum. The procedure involves inserting a small tube into the eardrum to allow better ventilation and drainage of fluids.
Nasal turbinate reduction is a surgical procedure used to address nasal inflammation and congestion caused by enlarged turbinates – structures inside the nose that help humidify air during inhalation. This procedure involves reducing or removing portions of the turbinates to improve nasal airflow and reduce symptoms such as snoring or sleep apnea. These procedures are generally safe and effective when done under proper conditions by a skilled surgeon.
When Are These Procedures Necessary?
These procedures are typically performed on children who suffer from different ENT symptoms. If a patient is frequently struggling with ear infections or sinus infections, these procedures could become a serious option. These procedures are often performed together in an effort to improve the patient’s overall function of their ears, nose, and throat. Since these functions work interchangeably, this combination of procedures offers patients a complete solution to their ENT conditions.
A patient may want to undergo this procedure if:
- They experience inferior nasal airflow
- They have swollen adenoids
- They experience recurring infections
- They have significant fluid buildup behind the eardrums
Oftentimes, these conditions can be treated with antibiotics or other conservative treatments. However, if a patient continues to experience the symptoms, they may be a candidate for this procedure.
