Blood vessels and nerves are preserved whenever possible. Once all targeted tissue is removed, the incision is closed with sutures. In many cases, a temporary surgical drain is placed to prevent fluid buildup. After surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. The drain is typically removed within a few days.
