Sinus /Turbinates Bilateral (Simple) Procedure

Bilateral turbinate reduction is a procedure recommended to patients suffering from chronic sinusitis, which results in recurring sinus infections. The goal of this procedure is to remove some tissue from the turbinates to open the airways and make breathing easier for patients. Oftentimes, patients with chronic sinusitis also suffer from interrupted sleep, difficulty breathing, and nose bleeds. Reducing the size of the turbinates often provides a solution for all of these issues.

When is This Procedure Necessary?

A bilateral nasal turbinate reduction using a simple approach is considered medically necessary when patients have been diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and related concerns. When patients are initially diagnosed with chronic sinusitis, they are typically prescribed a course of nasal spray and antibiotics. If these conservative methods are ineffective at providing effective relief, patients may consider surgical intervention.

Meet our Nose Doctors

What To Expect

Patients will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. During a simple approach, the surgeon will access the nasal passages through the nose, without the need for an incision. The surgeon will then use specialized tools to remove tissue from the nasal cavity and open up the airways. This process is repeated on the other side. Once the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the patient will be monitored as they are removed from the anesthesia.

After the procedure, patients may experience discomfort in the nasal cavity region. This is manageable with a course of anti-inflammatory pain medications. Patients need to consult their doctor if they experience any irregular symptoms.
