Next, the surgeon will remove a portion of the entire parotid gland, depending on the extent of the tumor. When the goal of the surgery is achieved, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be removed from the anesthesia.

Patients are usually advised to keep the wound clean and dress it regularly to prevent infection. Swelling can be significant following surgery and may take several weeks to subside completely.
