Liposuction of Abdomen Procedure

Liposuction of the abdomen is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from the stomach area. The goal of the procedure is to achieve a slimmer and more contoured appearance. This procedure is most commonly performed on patients who have struggled to eliminate stubborn belly fat through diet and exercise.

Many patients seeking liposuction of the abdomen are not able to have it covered by their insurance. In this case, patients may consider a procedure with a Direct Specialty Care (DSC) provider. Smith Medical offers affordable plastic surgery to patients seeking transparent, quality care.

When is This Procedure Necessary?

Patients typically consider liposuction of the abdomen if they have stubborn pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. This procedure is most commonly sought after by individuals who have tried traditional methods of weight loss but are unable to achieve their desired results in the area of the abdomen. Regardless of the reason for surgery, we believe that all patients deserve the right to accessible and affordable care.

What To Expect

Patients will have a consultation with their surgeon before the procedure to establish their goals. The patient will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. Liposuction is performed through small incisions where a thin, hollow tube is inserted to loosen excess fat. This fat is then “vacuumed” out using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the tube. When the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be monitored as they are removed from the anesthesia.

Immediately following the procedure, patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated area. It is important to follow post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon, which may include wearing compression garments, taking prescribed medications for pain management, and avoiding strenuous activities. During the first week post-surgery, it is recommended to rest and avoid bending or lifting heavy objects. By the second week, most patients can resume light activities and gradually increase their level of physical exertion as tolerated.
