Knee with Lateral Release or Microfracture Procedure
When is This Procedure Necessary?
Candidates for arthroscopic lateral release are individuals who have suffered a severe injury to the kneecap. Upon diagnosis, your doctor will likely begin by suggesting a course of conservative therapies. This includes, but is not limited to, physical therapy, pain medications, and rest. If patients still experience debilitating pain, surgical intervention may become necessary.
Candidates frequently experience these symptoms:
- Severe pain and swelling
- A bump on the outside of the knee
- Difficulty walking

What To Expect
After the procedure, patients may experience pain in the knee, which can be managed through a course of pain medication provided by the doctor. When the swelling and discomfort subsides, patients will begin a physical therapy program to build muscle, regain stability, and improve flexibility.
