This procedure is considered complex if the mass is large, is near a structure, or has spread. When the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be monitored as they are removed from the anesthesia.
After the procedure, patients may experience pain around the area which is manageable through a course of prescribed pain medications. If the excision involves a biopsy, patients can expect results within 1-2 weeks. Patients should report any irregular symptoms such as swelling or infection to their doctor.
