Ovarian Cyst or Lesion Removal
When is This Procedure Necessary?
There are a few reasons why patients may choose to undergo a laparoscopic hysterectomy with a bladder sling. This procedure is considered medically necessary in a few circumstances including:
- Uterine fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
A bladder swing is an additional step in the procedure that is recommended for patients suffering from urinary incontinence or bladder leaks.

What To Expect
Patients are placed under general anesthesia. The surgeon may use a laparoscopic or open approach depending on the size and location of the cyst or lesion. For laparoscopic surgery, small incisions are made in the abdomen, and a laparoscope is used to view the ovary. The cyst or lesion is carefully separated from healthy ovarian tissue and removed. For larger or more complex cases, a larger incision may be made. The ovary is preserved whenever possible. After surgery, patients may have mild abdominal soreness and bloating. Walking is encouraged soon after the procedure, but heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks. Recovery time varies depending on the surgical approach.
