In more severe cases, patients may be given general anesthesia. If this is the case, they must follow instructions regarding fasting on the day of the procedure.
During the procedure, patients should not experience pain due to the anesthesia. The surgeon will begin by making a small incision in the affected finger or below it. They will then any constrictions that are restricting movement. After identifying and addressing the issue, the surgeon will then close the incision. The procedure typically takes less than an hour and it is a reliable solution for patients with trigger finger.
After the procedure, patients may experience discomfort and pain surrounding the site of the incision. Your doctor will provide you with a split and give you instructions on caring for the finger. Typically, the finger should fully heal within six weeks, but it is important to be extra cautious so you do not disrupt the healing process.
