Vaginal or Vulvar Lesion Removal
When is This Procedure Necessary?
There are a few reasons why patients may choose to undergo a laparoscopic hysterectomy with a bladder sling. This procedure is considered medically necessary in a few circumstances including:
- Uterine fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
A bladder swing is an additional step in the procedure that is recommended for patients suffering from urinary incontinence or bladder leaks.

What To Expect
Patients are typically placed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the size and location of the lesion. The surgeon cleans the area and makes a precise incision around the lesion. The abnormal tissue is removed in its entirety, taking care to preserve healthy surrounding tissue. If necessary, stitches are placed to close the incision. A sterile dressing may be applied for protection. After surgery, patients may experience mild soreness, swelling, or spotting for a few days. Most can return to normal activities within a few days, but sexual activity and tampon use are usually restricted until healing is complete.
