Wrist Arthroscopy
When Is a Mastoidectomy Necessary?
Patients may consider a mastoidectomy if they have mastoiditis and it is not responding to antibiotics. If left untreated, the infection could spread to other areas of the skull. Therefore, it is important to be proactive in your treatment and ensure to consult your physician on different treatment options.
A mastoidectomy is necessary if:
- The patient has chronic mastoiditis
- The patient’s condition is not responding to antibiotics
- The infection is spreading

What To Expect
Patients receive regional or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes tiny incisions around the wrist and inserts an arthroscope (a small camera) to view the joint. Specialized tools are then used to remove loose tissue, trim damaged cartilage, or repair injuries inside the wrist. Once complete, the instruments are removed, and the small incisions are closed with sutures or surgical strips. Recovery is typically quick, with mild soreness and swelling for a few days. A splint may be worn temporarily. Light activity can often resume within a week, though full recovery may take longer if repairs were extensive.
