Dr. Stephen Thon is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, shoulder surgery, and minimally invasive orthopedic procedures. A Denver native, Dr. Thon is fellowship-trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery and provides advanced treatment for injuries and conditions affecting the shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow.

Education & Training
Dr. Thon earned bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder before receiving his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tulane, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by an Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
Dr. Thon is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Sports Medicine Experience
During his fellowship training, Dr. Thon gained extensive experience caring for competitive athletes and served as a team physician for organizations and athletic programs including the Colorado Avalanche, University of Colorado Buffaloes, and University of Denver, as well as local high school athletic programs.
Research & Academic Experience
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Thon has an academic and research background in orthopedic surgery. His research has included rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, biceps pathology, and sports medicine, contributing to the advancement of orthopedic treatment and surgical techniques.
