Open Septorhinoplasty with Turbinate Reduction Procedure
When is This Procedure Necessary?
Meet our Nose Doctors
What To Expect
Patients are under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. During an open approach, the surgeon will make excisions on the external part of the nose to access and reshape the nasal septum which divides the nostrils. Surgeons meticulously sculpt these components to correct breathing difficulties, deviated septums, and cosmetic concerns such as a crooked or misshapen nose. When the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incision and the patient will be monitored as they are taken off the anesthesia.
After the procedure, patients can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the nose and possibly the eyes. Pain medication will be prescribed to manage any discomfort. Nasal congestion is also common due to nasal packing or swelling, although this will improve as healing progresses. Patients are advised to rest with their heads elevated, avoid strenuous activity, and refrain from blowing their nose for a specified period.
