What To Expect
This procedure is similar to a standard laparoscopic hernia repair but is performed to fix a hernia that has returned after a previous repair. Patients are placed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes small incisions and inserts a laparoscope to view the hernia site. Scar tissue from the prior surgery is carefully released to expose the defect. The hernia is repaired, and a new mesh is placed to reinforce the abdominal wall. The incisions are then closed. Recovery is similar to an initial repair, but patients may experience slightly more discomfort due to scar tissue removal. Walking is encouraged soon after surgery, with heavy lifting restricted for several weeks.
