Excision plantar arch (foot) Procedure

Excision plantar arch is a surgical procedure performed to alleviate chronic pain and inflammation in the arch of the foot. This condition is commonly referred to as plantar fasciitis, a condition characterized by excessive strain on the arch and micro-tears. The goal of the excision plantar arch procedure is to remove any scar tissue and any damaged portions of the fascia to relieve tension and promote healing.

When is This Procedure Necessary?

Excision of the plantar arch, or plantar fasciotomy, is a surgical procedure performed when conservative treatments have failed to alleviate chronic and debilitating foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Before undergoing surgery, patients are recommended to try the following conservative therapies:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Orthotic Inserts
  • Steroid Injections
  • Anti-Inflammatory Pain Medications

What To Expect

Patients will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon will make an incision on the bottom of the foot to access the arch. They will then remove a small portion of the plantar fascia ligament to reduce tension and pressure on the arch of the foot.

After the procedure, patients may experience pain and discomfort in the foot. While recovery times may vary depending on individual factors such as age and overall health condition, most patients can return to their normal activities within 4-6 weeks post-surgery. Patients must follow their surgeon’s instructions regarding weight-bearing restrictions and rehabilitation exercises during this period to ensure optimal healing and prevent complications.
