Morton’s Neuroma Excision

Morton’s Neuroma Excision is a surgical procedure to remove a painful thickening of nerve tissue (neuroma) commonly found between the toes, often between the third and fourth toes. This condition causes burning pain, tingling, or numbness in the ball of the foot. During the surgery, a small incision is made on the top or bottom of the foot to access and remove the affected nerve segment. The procedure aims to relieve pain and discomfort when conservative treatments like footwear changes or injections have failed.

When Is a Mastoidectomy Necessary?

Patients may consider a mastoidectomy if they have mastoiditis and it is not responding to antibiotics. If left untreated, the infection could spread to other areas of the skull. Therefore, it is important to be proactive in your treatment and ensure to consult your physician on different treatment options.

A mastoidectomy is necessary if:

  • The patient has chronic mastoiditis
  • The patient’s condition is not responding to antibiotics
  • The infection is spreading

What To Expect

Patients are placed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision on the top or bottom of the foot between the affected toes. The thickened nerve causing pain is carefully located and removed. The incision is then closed with sutures and dressed. After surgery, patients may need to wear a special postoperative shoe to protect the foot. Walking is usually possible the same day, though swelling and discomfort may persist for several weeks. Supportive footwear is recommended during recovery.
