Ulnar Nerve Transposition / Epicondylectomy Procedure
Ulnar nerve transposition, also known as epicondylectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to alleviate symptoms caused by compression or entrapment of the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve is responsible for movement and sensation in the forearm and hand, and when compressed at the elbow, it can result in pain, numbness, and muscle weakness. During this procedure, the surgeon relocates the ulnar nerve from its original position behind the medial epicondyle to a new location in front of it. By performing this transposition, pressure on the nerve is reduced, minimizing symptoms and promoting better function.

What To Expect
The procedure begins with an incision made over the inner side of the elbow to gain access to the ulnar nerve. Once identified, the surgeon carefully detaches the nerve from any surrounding tissues and evaluates its condition. Next, a tunnel or groove is created in front of the medial epicondyle, through which the ulnar nerve is relocated and positioned securely. This relocation aims to alleviate pressure on the nerve by preventing it from becoming compressed or irritated during everyday movements. After ensuring proper positioning, the surgeon closes the incision using sutures or staples and administers appropriate post-operative care instructions to facilitate smooth recovery and minimize complications.
