Blepharoplasty Lower Procedure

A lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure to minimize signs of aging in the eyelid region. This procedure targets wrinkles, under-eye bags, and puffiness. During this procedure, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat from the under eyes to help the patient achieve a more youthful appearance.

Many patients seeking a blepharoplasty are not able to have it covered by their insurance. In this case, patients may consider this procedure with a Direct Specialty Care (DSC) provider. Smith Medical offers affordable plastic surgery to patients seeking transparent, quality care.

When is This Procedure Necessary?

Patients typically consider a lower blepharoplasty procedure if they experience cosmetic concerns related to their lower eyelids. Common issues that may prompt patients to seek this type of surgery include excess skin or fatty deposits that create a heavy or droopy appearance, resulting in a tired or aged look. Regardless of the reason for surgery, we believe that all patients deserve the right to accessible and affordable care.

What To Expect

Patients will have a consultation before the procedure to establish their goals with surgery. The surgeon will mark up the face to determine where the incisions will be made. Patients will be under general anesthesia to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon will begin by making an incision at the lower eyelid before removing excess fat deposits. They will also reposition excess skin to help the patient achieve a more youthful appearance. Once the goal of the procedure has been achieved, the surgeon will close the incision(s) and the patient will be monitored as they wake up from the anesthesia.

After the procedure, patients may experience bruising and discomfort in the eyelid region for a week or two. Any pain is typically manageable through a course of anti-inflammatory pain medications.
